McCrae Pool Project
Award Winning Elevated Swimming Pool Design
Located on the north-western slope of Arthurs Seat, the formerly vacant property now features an elevated swimming pool with an infinity-like ledge, showcasing the Port Philip Bay views and surrounding native coastal landscape.
Set at the lower level of the newly built bespoke family home, the swimming pool works with the extreme slope of the property elevated 1.2m above natural ground. Custom designed to suit the fall of the land, the rectangular pool design measures 9.0m at the longest point and spans 3.8m in width. Featuring a wading area on entry, this space provides an in-pool-sunlounge experience whilst catering for accessibility requirements of the total extended family.
The exposed western edge of the infinity-like pool design is cladded with corten steel recessed under a grey granite tile running along the ledge of the pool. Connecting with the three tall pots in the pool zone, the corten also features throughout the landscape including the circular steppers leading to the fire pit at the lower level of the pool. The surrounding decking, floating timber bench and timber vertical uprights soften the remaining grey granite tiles and exposed besser block wall in the pool area.
When viewing the pool zone and surrounding spaces from the top balcony off the main living area of the home (10m above), the rich deep blue of the Bahama pool interior complements and draws your eye out over to the ocean of Port Philip Bay on a clear sunny day. Ionic purification provides a low maintenance solution with the pool equipment carefully concealed and yet easily accessible under the surrounding decking accessible via a door located near the fire pit.
Whether the clients are simply admiring the space from the top living space of the residence, cooling off in the pool and admiring the Port Philip Bay views from the western edge, enjoying the autumn sun poolside on the floating timber seat, reading a book under the umbrella on the pool deck or simply enjoying the warmth of the fire at dusk of winters evening – this is a space to be enjoyed now and for many years to come by the entire family.
